Raja Muda of Perlis Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail said every Malaysian must understand and accept the social contract and Federal Constitution since the setting up of Malaya and the formation of Malaysia.
He said they were the basis to the national harmony which prevented a repeat of the May 13, 1969 incident and enabled the people to live in peace and harmony until today.
"I also hope the people will shed their greedy and jealous traits as it will only led to the destruction of the nation.
"Both these two traits must be replaced with unity and made a culture in their lives other than tolerance and mutually respecting each other's customs and beliefs," Tuanku Syed Faizuddin added.
He said this after opening a function organised by the Perlis Department of National Unity and Integration here, last night.
