Unemployed found guilty of posing as Interpol officer for money
Mohamad Nazir Taib, 42, says he committed the offence for money, as he was broke after paying the hospital bill for his wife's C-section surgery.
An unemployed man was fined RM1,000 by the Magistrate's Court here on Wednesday for impersonating an Interpol personnel.
Mohamad Nazir Taib, 42, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Nurul Ain Abdul Rahim to committing the offence at Jalan Segambut, Kg Segambut Tengah, near Condominium Mandy Villa at 6pm on Jan 17.
According to the facts of the case, Mohamad Nazir got into a Rapid KL bus at Medan Pasar, Pudu Raya and during the ride, was noted by the bus driver to be checking the passports of several male foreign nationals.
When the bus stopped at Jalan Segambut, Mohamad Nazir came to the driver, Muhammad Ellahhami Ahmad Shabri, and introduced himself as an Interpol personnel before alighting with two of the foreign passengers without paying the RM2 fare.
The driver became suspicious and reported the matter to the bus company.
Police arrested Mohamad Nazir on Jan 22 when he boarded the same bus heading to Kg Segambut Tengah.
In his mitigation, Mohamad Nazir said he committed the offence because he had run out of money after paying the hospital bill for his wife who had just given birth by caesarean section.
Deputy public prosecutor, N. Joy Jothi appeared for the prosecution.
