Unemployed man charged with murder of former soldier

An unemployed man was charged in the Seri Manjung Magistrate's Court with the murder of a former soldier with the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN).
Tan Yee Chun, 27, nodded after the charge was read before Magistrate Nur Shaqira Ibrahim, but no plea was recorded.
Tan, and another person still at large, were charged with causing the death of Mohd Supian Md Samat, 34, in Kampung Cina, Taman Sri Mawar, Sitiawan here, between 1 am and 8.50 am last March 10.
The charge, under Section 302 of the Penal Code, provides the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.
Tan was also charged with possession of 14.49gm of methamphetamine.
The offence was allegedly committed at a house in Jalan Lumut, Taman Sitiawan Maju, Sitiawan, at 7.30pm last March 15.
Nur Shaqira fixed May 25 for mention of both cases pending the chemist and post mortem reports.
The prosecution was conducted by prosecuting officer Ahmad Asyeq Salleh, while Tan was unrepresented. -- Bernama
