Unemployed man claims trial to terrorism-related charges

An unemployed man pleaded not guilty in the High Court here today to three counts of terrorism-related activities.
Mohamad Azmin Shah Sharifudin, 22, made the plea after the charges were read out to him before Judge Datuk Azman Abdullah.
On the first charge, he was alleged to be in possession of a mobile phone containing with 12 images and pictures on terrorist act and having connection with the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group.
The offence was allegedly committed at PT646, Kampung Tersusun Salak Baru, Sungai Siput, Perak at 6.55am on March 24 this year.
The charge, under Section 130JB(1)(a) of the Penal Code, provides an imprisonment for up to seven years, or a fine, or liable to forfeiture of any such items, if found guilty.
Mohamad Azmin Shah also faced an amended charge with promoting membership in the IS and an alternative charge for promoting terrorist act, made under Section 130G(b) and 130G(a) of the same law, respectively.
Both charges provide an imprisonment for up to 30 years and fine, upon conviction.
He was alleged to have committed both offences at an unnumbered house at Kampung Tersusun Salak Baru, Sungai Siput, Perak, at 10pm between June 1 and 30 last year.
Deputy public prosecutor Mohamad Mustaffa P.Kunyalam appeared for the prosecution, while the accused was represented by counsel Rosli Ismail.
The court fixed Sept 2 for re-mention.
