KANGAR: The responsibility to nurture and strengthen national unity does not rest solely on the shoulders of the government but should be borne by all quarters, said National Unity Minister Datuk Halimah Mohamed Sadique.
She said unity was a shared responsibility, and therefore the ministry had formulated the National Unity Policy and the National Unity Blueprint 2021-2030.
"To support the implementation of this policy and blueprint, several action plans have been prepared including the Rukun Tetangga Leadership Empowerment Plan 2021-2030 which was launched on Feb 28, last year," she said in her speech at the Semarak Perpaduan Keluarga Malaysia: Iftar Kasih Ramadan programme here tonight.
Also present were the PR1MA Corporation Malaysia (PR1MA) chairman Datuk Dr Fathul Bari Mat Jahya, National Unity Ministry secretary-general Datuk Noridah Abdul Rahim and deputy secretary-general Dr Kang Tong Hum.
Halimah said this year, the ministry has been and is mobilising programmes and activities at all levels to boost the spirit of unity among the Malaysian Family.
"I really hope the ministry's initiatives can be celebrated and implemented together by government agencies, non-governmental organisations and the private sector," she said.
Halimah said the programmes and activities serve as integration sites for uniting the multi-racial community.
She added that these sites are the main recipes that bind the diversity of Malaysians through the values of cooperation, consensus, helping each other, mutual respect and love.
Meanwhile, she said today's programme was aimed at bringing the people together, especially during the blessed month of Ramadan.
