UPM extends aid to families of two students
Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) has extended aid to the families of two undergraduates killed in the Genting bus mishap.
Sia Chin Shin, 22, from Johol, Negeri Sembilan and Kwan Chin Yii, 22, from Segamat, Johor were among 37 people killed when a stage bus plunged into a ravine at Km3.5 Jalan Genting Highlands at 2.22pm on Wednesday.
The duo were pursuing a computer science degree at UPM.
Deputy vice-chancellor (student affairs and alumni) Prof Dr Mohamad Shatar Sabran said each family received RM3,000 from UPM and RM400 from the Student Welfare Fund for funeral expenses.
The aid was handed over by UPM student affairs and alumni division representatives who visited the families.
He said each family would also get RM8,000 from the student insurance policy.
"UPM staff and students offer our deepest condolences to both families and hope they would persevere," said Mohamad Shatar, adding that they could contact his office for any assistance.
