UPSR: Engineer remanded for four days

An engineer who was arrested in Kemaman yesterday in connection with the leakage of Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) question papers has been remanded for four days starting today.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohd Ridzuwan Mohiddin told reporters today that the remand order against the engineer was to enable investigation under Section 8(1) of the Official Secrets Act 1972.

Police arrested seven people following the leak of the UPSR question papers but two were released on the same day after their statements were recorded.

In addition to the 34 year-old engineer, the four others remanded were a headmaster, two teachers and an insurance agent.

They were arrested on Sunday (Sept 14) and remanded for four days.

Following the leak, English papers 014/1 and 014/2 were cancelled after students sat for them on Thursday (Sept 11) while Science papers 018, 028 and 038 were postponed before the students sat for them on the same day.

The Malaysian Examinations Board has set Sept 30 as the new date for the two subjects.
