KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Education Malaysia (MOE) has decided to abolish the Primary School Assessment Test (UPSR) for good and cancelled the PT3 exams for this year.
Senior Minister of Education, Datuk Radzi Jidin in a Special Press Conference said there was no substitute examination for the Year 6 student test.
On the other hand, Radzi explained, the main focus of the ministry at this time is to strengthen the Special School Admission Assessment (PKSK).
"UPSR as a component to go to SBP. However, when we implement PKSK to enable students to enter SBP, we see only 1/4 of the total number of students in Year Six (2020) decide to sit for PKSK," he said.
He also explained that the decision to cancel PT3 for this year was made taking into account the time constraints for students to make preparations, especially face -to-face learning with teachers at school.
"If we look at the COVID-19 contagion situation has not been fully addressed and we take into account the current situation and take into account that without the implementation of PT3, the method of student assessment can continue to be implemented," he said.
Last year, the MOE announced that UPSR and PT3 were canceled following the COVID-19 pandemic.
