Uptown traders appeal for early approval for temporary site

Secretary of the Shah Alam Uptown Traders Association, Amran Johari said so far, work to set up temporary stalls at the site had not started.

Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali, who visited the site after the fire, had instructed the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) to use an open parking area next to the old bazaar as a temporary site for the traders to operate their business.

Amran said most of the traders were concerned as the bureaucratic red-tapes were causing delays and this affected their livelihood as they depended on their business.

He said traders affected by the fire were also not satisfied with the Shah Alam Uptown management for failing to take care of their welfare.

The fire destroyed 187 shop lots.

He also claimed that the presence of additional 20 shoplots which did not meet the specifications of the original plan had caused confusion on the actual number of traders affected by the fire.

Newspapers had earlier reported that the 3am fire was caused by a short circuit from one of the shops.
