US embassy fails to aknowledge protests

Protesters who demonstrated against the controversial film ‘Innocence of Muslims’ which insulted the Prophet Muhammad were disappointed by the cold shoulder treatment given by the United States (US) Embassy today in their wish to handover a memorandum to US government.

The rally which took off in front the Tabung Haji building at Jalan Tun Razak, Kuala Lumpur saw over 3,000 participants participating in the gathering.

They marched towards the US Embassy after the Friday prayers along Jalan Tun Razak and gathered in front of the embassy carrying banners and placards.

The embassy area was guarded by nearly 60 to 70 police personnel to ensure the safety of the building.

According to PAS Youth chief, Nasrudin Hassan Tantawi, no representative of the US Embassy wanted to receive the memorandum.

He regretted the ‘poor treatment’ given by the US Embassy as they only sent its head of security to receive the memorandum.

He said if the US government practices democracy, then they should listen to the voices of the Malaysians.

“This is a type of provocation that can create unrest and chaos all over the world,” said Nasrudin.

Meanwhile, PKR Vice President Nurul Izzah Anwar also expressed her regret against the US Embassy for not showing up to receive the memorandum.

“Why can’t they even show up to receive the memorandum?” she said.

The long line of crowd started to disperse peacefully around 3.30pm.
