Pengerusi DAP Sarawak Chong Chieng Jen menarik balik tuduhannya terhadap Setiausaha Kerajaan Negeri Sarawak Tan Sri Mohamad Morshidi Abdul Gani berikutan usul yang dikemukakan oleh Menteri Pelancongan, Kesenian, Kebudayaan, Belia dan Sukan Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.
Abdul Karim mengemukakan usul itu bagi mendapatkan pertimbangan daripada Anggota Dewan untuk menggantung Chong daripada menghadiri persidangan Dewan Undangan Negeri (DUN) yang berbaki sehari selepas Anggota DUN Kota Sentosa itu mengucapkan perkataan 'suapan' terhadap Mohamad Morshidi semasa sidang DUN hari ini.
"Saya menarik balik perkataan 'suapan' tetapi persoalannya adalah semua permohonan untuk penduduk tetap di negeri ini berada di atas meja setiausaha kerajaan negeri," kata Chong, menjawab soalan Speaker Datuk Amar Mohamed Asfia Awang Nasar sekiranya beliau mahu menarik balik perkataan itu.
Semasa berucap pada sesi perbahasan Rang Undang-Undang Perbekalan 2018, Chong menuduh setiausaha kerajaan negeri kerana gagal meluluskan permohonan status penduduk tetap di Sarawak dengan berkata:
"Saya tertanya-tanya apa yang setiausaha kerajaan negeri lakukan. Kenapa anda membiarkan ia di pejabat anda? Adakah anda menunggu semua permohonan ini untuk datang kepada anda memberikan anda suapan untuk apa yang sepatutnya anda lakukan?"
Abdul Karim dalam usulnya berkata perkataan 'suapan' digunakan dalam undang-undang jenayah di Malaysia termasuk Akta Suruhanjaya Pencegahan Rasuah Malaysia 2009 serta Kanun Keseksaan yang membawa maksud ketidakjujuran dan penyalahgunaan kuasa.
Setelah Chong menarik balik perkataan itu, Speaker membuat keputusan bahawa Chong masih boleh menghadiri sidang DUN esok, iaitu hari terakhir persidangan bagi sesi kali ini.
