'The Utan', new icon for Sandakan

Sandakan has received a new icon to commemorate Sabah's 50 years in the Malaysian federation.

The icon, in the form of an Orang Utan has been named 'The Utan', and is located in the vicinity of The Piazza shopping centre at Sandakan Habour Square.

Sandakan Municipal Council (MPS) president Datuk James Wong, who unveiled it today, said the icon created by UMS Creative Arts graduate Michael Kwa Wei Choon, 28, was selected from 61 entries nationwide in a competition organised by Ireka Development Management Sdn Bhd and ICSD Ventures Sdn Bhd, with the cooperation of the MPS.
