KUALA LUMPUR: Yayasan Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (YUTP), with support from Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) and PETRONAS, raised over RM20 million at the 2025 Tapestry of Colours Charity Dinner (TOCCD) to fund scholarships for deserving students.
Since its founding in 2007, YUTP has disbursed RM105 million in scholarships and bursaries to more than 2,900 students. The foundation works with corporate and individual donors through initiatives like TOCCD to bolster UTP’s position as a premier academic institution.
Major contributors to this year’s charity dinner included J.P. Morgan Chase Bank Berhad, CIMB, Deleum, Dialog Group Berhad, Tiger Gas, MISC Group, Kenanga Investors Berhad, T7 Global Berhad. Velesto Energy Berhad, Deloitte, Petra Energy Berhad and Shopee Malaysia. The funds raised will support scholarships, research, innovation, and student development across areas such as technopreneurship, leadership, arts, and community engagement.
Held in conjunction with UTP’s 28th anniversary, the event spotlighted three student-led social responsibility projects: the Blind Empowerment Campaign, which aids visually impaired individuals through education and technology; Bakau Revival, a mangrove restoration initiative addressing coastal erosion in Perak; and SunStops, which introduces solar-powered charging stations at bus stops to enhance sustainability and urban infrastructure.
The dinner also celebrated UTP alumni success stories, highlighting the transformative role of YUTP scholarships. More than 500 attendees, including PETRONAS Chairman Tan Sri Dato Seri Mohd Bakke Salleh, YUTP Chairman Board of Trustees Alina Zaira Abu Bakar, PETRONAS Executive Leadership Team Members, UTP Board Members, UTP Vice Chancellor Professor Dato’ Ir Ts Dr Mohamed Ibrahim Abdul Mutalib, industry partners, corporate guests, and UTP alumni, were entertained by performances from UTP’s student.
In addition, the event showcased the launch of two new gamelan albums, Tala Perenggu and Gatra 3, by UTP Gamelan Group Sanggar Kirana. The albums, blending traditional and modern gamelan music, are now available on digital platforms.
