Vandalism of murals: Police seek professional help

Police will seek professional help to identify the suspects recorded when vandalising the giant murals on the portraits of several national leaders in Taman Cahaya Alam, Section U12, Shah Alam, said Selangor police chief, Datuk Noor Azam Jamaludin.

He said, the poor quality of the closed circuit television (CCTV) recording rendered it difficult for the police to identify the suspects involved.

‘’This case is still under investigation. It takes a long time because there are not many CCTV available in the area other than the dark surrounding during the incident. The visual also breaks when we want to zoom (CCTV recording).

‘’So, we will send it to a professional to get a clearer visual,’’ he said.

He was speaking to the media after witnessing an exchange of duties between the KLIA District Police chief, ACP Zulkifli Adamshah and Selangor Police Contingent Headquarters Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department deputy chief, ACP Imran Abdul Rahman, effective today.

On July 20, a CCTV recording viraled on social media which showed glimpses of two women who were believed to be responsible for damaging the murals.

The Shah Alam City Council painted over all the murals following the incident.

In another development, Noor Azam said the Selangor police yesterday issued 29 compounds on cases of failing to comply with the standard operating procedure (SOP) of the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO).

A total 18 compounds were issued for flouting the SOP on physical distancing and conducting forbidden activities while 11 compounds were issued for not wearing face masks in areas of public foci, he said. - BERNAMA
