Vanessa Carlton Drops First Song In Years

Vanessa Carlton had us singing along to A Thousand Miles from her 2002 album “Be Not Nobody” and if memory serves me correctly, I actually bought a cassette copy of that record because which fledgling girl didn’t sing out loud verbatim while either in the car or in their room? Plus, the movie “White Chicks” made the song hysterically iconic!
Carlton however has gone through a creative rebirth since her 2002 album and for the last album in 2011 she had left the major label and started working with British producer Steve Osborne to devise a sound that was a far cry from her pounding on her piano making her way downtown days. It’s mature, contemplative and Carlton recorded the tracks for her upcoming album Liberman in Nashville and England.
The thematic inspiration for “Young Heart” comes from people wishing they’ve done a relationship another way or connected to a loved one differently. She also learnt along the way that not everything survives when it’s not meant to be. Producing soothing vocals, with a slight touch of ‘distortion’ effect, over a guitar-based production, indie Nessa sings about the guiltless spirit of a girl with a “young heart” in the newly-premiered “pre-single single”.
