Veteran journalist Pak Non safely buried this morning
Consultant and political editor for The Sun, Zainon Ahmad who passed away of liver cancer yesterday, was safely buried at the Banggol Muslim cemetery this morning.
Zainon or fondly known as Pak Non was buried at 10am today.
The 70 year-old veteran journalist, died at the Raja Perempuan Zainad II hospital around 2.20pm yesterday where his body was brought back to his home in Jalan Bayam, Kota Bharu.
Pak Non became a teacher for three years before venturing into journalism 35 years ago at the New Straits Times.
He then became the Editor-in-Chief at The Sun in 2002.
Media Prima Berhad executive director Datuk Ahmad Talib said Pak Non was a respected journalist who is ever willing to share his knowledge.
“Whenever Pak Non sits with a new journalist, he will spend lots of time to train them and transfer his skills and knowledge to young ones.
“So many who have been trained by him have become journalists with calibre, and he is also a practitioner of press freedom,” he said.
Recalling his days working with Pak Non, Ahmad said the man had a good temperament.
Pak Non has also won the media personality award in 2010.
He held a bachelor’s degree in history and a postgraduate degree in international relations from Universiti Malaya.
Pak Non left behind a wife, four children and 14 granchildren.
