The body of Jahir Sulaiman, 46, who was killed in the incident where a giant antenna pole atop the Umno building in Jalan MaCalister here collapsed on his vehicle, will be buried after 'asar' prayers at the Jalan Perak Muslim Cemetery, here, today.
The victim's brother-in-law Mohd Mohideen Mohd Syeriff, 54, said he felt aggrieved that the victim who hailed from Chennai, India, could not return to his hometown to celebrate the Ramadan, next month.
"My brother-in-law said that he wanted to return this July and celebrate Ramadan with families there.
After all, he had never returned to India since he started working here two years ago," he told reporters when met at the Penang Hospital Forensic Department, here.
Mohd Mohideen, who sells various types of soup in Padang Brown here, described Jahir as a hardworking person who often helped him at the stall after working hours.
Jahir who worked as the driver of a pick up truck usually started his work as early as 7am and would return home by 5pm but yesterday, he had worked overtime because he wanted to earn more money for next month's trip.
Yesterday's incident saw the antenna collapse on Jahir's vehicle which was driven by his colleague at 6.45pm causing him serious head injuries while the driver only sustained minor injuries.
Jahir who was seriously injured and later died at the Penang Hospital leaves behind his wife, Siti Thaj Nisa, 42, and two daughters Benazir, 19, and Femina, 8.
