A local video game company, Metronomik is set to launch its inaugural video titled 'No Straight Roads' into the global market on August 25.
Metronomik chief executive officer, Wan Hazmer Wan Abd Halim said the video game which was created by local talents is based on the concept of music and showcases various aspects of Malaysia including the traditional dikir barat art form.
"This video game is about a rock group which creates original music to go against the 'Electronic Dance Music' (EDM) empire.
"Many Malaysian elements are showcased in this video game, including the wayang kulit and dikir barat songs which are accompanied by Bahasa Malaysia subtitles. The voice actors used in the video game are also local talents," he said.
Wan Hazmer was speaking in the 'Temu Minda: 'No Straight Roads' in Creative Careers' Programme with Communications and Multimedia Minister, Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah, who was also the moderator of the programme which was shown on RTM last night.
The video game can be accessed through PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and Xbox One.
During the programme, Wan Hazmer also stressed that the younger generation should explore video games as a medium to showcase Malaysian talents and creations at the global level.
At the end of the programme, Saifuddin agreed that the video game industry had a bright future and more youths should become involved in it.
"We want to see the creative economy develop from all fields from traditional to contemporary, and what is interesting is we can incorporate traditional elements into present-day creative industry such as video games. This is something to be proud of," he said.
