KLANG: Police are expected to call Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to assist in the investigation of a case regarding an audio recording that allegedly resembled the voices of the two leaders.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador said the action was to complete the investigation paper on the case.
He explained that the UMNO president and the PKR president had to come forward to lodge a police report if it was true that the recording was slanderous.
"When the investigation paper is opened, that is the action that will be taken. When the time comes, the investigating officer will call them.
“Both parties, whether Anwar or Ahmad Zahid, if they feel persecuted, they need to come forward to make a report.
"But, if people feel depressed, anxious or (it) causes a commotion (come forward to lodge a report). Upon receiving many reports, the police have a reason to open an investigation paper,” he said at the Selangor Contingent Amanita Adopted Park Launching Ceremony, here, today. Also present was Selangor Police Chief, Datuk Arjunaidi Mohamed.
Commenting on the investigation into the audio, Abdul Hamid said, the police were still actively analysing the authenticity of the recording.
He further explained that the investigation will be conducted as soon as possible and the finding of the analysis will be submitted to the Attorney General's Chambers for further action.
“If there is a result from the analysis, it will be sent to the Attorney General's Chambers for them to classify on which legal offence or what section of the case.
"The process is normal," he said.
Earlier, the audio recording of the conversation of two individuals who resembled the voices of Ahmad Zahid and Anwar became the focus after the recording had gone viral on social media.
Through the four-minute, 17 -second audio, a voice similar to Anwar was also heard praising Ahmad Zahid's speech at the UMNO General Assembly (PAU) 2020 through a phone call.
Through the same recording, the voice that resembled Anwar’s, is said to have admitted that he did not follow PAU closely for 22 years.
However, the two leaders vehemently denied it was their voices.
