VW continues efforts to promote child safety

Volkswagen group Malaysia extends their efforts to promote the importance of children safety in cars.

We previously reported that VW is working with the Association of Registered Childcare Providers Malaysia (PPBM) to raise awareness on child passenger safety to educate 28,000 parents on the importance of child car seats. Now they are looking to make the process easier and smoother for the workshops.

Just to recap, the CPS workshops will be conducted nationwide for 280 childcare centres until August of this year. The workshops will teach parents hands on approach on the proper use of child restraint systems and safety belts. VW looks to contribute 200 child car seats to the centres for educational purposes and will be giving out 10,000 copies of road safety flash cards to any who participates in the workshops.

The company would like to highlight the importance of using the ISOFIX system as well in the workshops. The system can be found in all Volkswagen vehicles that were first introduced in 1997 as a joint development between VW and child safety seat maker Britax-Roemer. The ISOFIX system in VW vehicles allows two ISOFIX compatible seats to be secured to the rear seat at the same time.

Statistics shows that the proper use of child seats reduces the risk of death by 71 per cent for infants and 54 per cent for children between the ages of one and five. To encourage the use of proper child seats in cars all manufacturers in Malaysia would be required to provide ISOFIX fixtures in all new vehicles. This regulation is well received by the government as well.
