KUALA LUMPUR: Sterner action will be taken without compromise after February 4 following the spike in COVID-19 cases.
Senior Minister (Defence Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the compound on individuals who violated the standard operating procedures (SOPs) is currently under discussion.
He explained that the matter is expected to be announced by the Inspector-General of Police, Datuk Seri Abdul Hamid Bador in the near future.
"IGP has mentioned that the compound will be increased when brought to court, offenders will be punished more severely.
"Whatever the punishment, the IGP will announce this because it involves the Emergency Ordinance.
"The current act (compound) is too low at RM1,000," he said in a press conference here, on Monday, adding that the increase in compound has not been decided.
