Netizens yesterday had a field day venting on the social media over the water supply disruption in Klang Valley, which affected 1.2 million consumers in 1,292 areas in Kuala Lumpur, Petaling, Klang, Shah Alam, Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor, Gombak and Kuala Langat.
In their rants, many questioned why the problem has been recurring year after year, while some could not resist leaving catty remarks on the matter.
A Facebook user, Amri Karim attempted to use a reality check on the authorities.
“Fine of RM60,000, 1.2million consumers were affected. Divide 60,000 by1.2 million, each will get only five sen,” he said.
Another user, Fei Ming said she was even thinking of suing the authorities responsible for the inconvenience.
"Can we sue AIR SELANGOR, LUAS, SPAN and the government for their total incompetence and failing to perform their duties to ensure and protect the water source, which is the most basic element for life," she said.
For Jynna Ong, the culprits accountable for the mess must be punished severely if they are found guilty.
"Those behind all this mess, should be held completely responsible and accountable for causing misery, distress and pain to the 1.2 million Klang Valley residents or more!!!," she said.
Meanwhile, Ajay Dev urged Air Selangor to take this matter seriously, if they have not done so.
"Air Selangor, think of the rakyat. Every time same reason given. Today pollution tomorrow new problem will occur. How is the rakyat wanna (is going to) bear this problem?
"This is not the 1st (first) time this thing happening, years already still back thinking n (and) cannot solve the problem. Learn frm (from) foreign country how they deal with this matter," he said.
Slamat Hamzah on the other hand provided solutions while being sarcastic on the pending investigations.
"It is easy. Take a raft go up stream (and) ask school boy to determine the culprits. Either Whorkshops (workshops), Oil palm mill, Rubber factories iligal (illegal) dumping sites, Procicute (prosecute) the culprits. Polution (Pollution) by bitumen is very small," he said.
Another user, Heeran Kaur from Petaling Jaya even uploaded a petition classifying the culprits as health and environmental terrorists.
Air Selangor yesterday said that water supply in several areas in the Klang Valley which had been disrupted since Thursday would be restored within four days.
Its chief executive officer Suhaimi Kamaralzaman said the four water treatment plants could only resume operations when the pollution reading reaches zero threshold odour number (TON).
