A filepic of the aftermath of the mud floods that occurred near Bertam Valley in Cameron Highlands.
The water level at Sultan Abu Bakar Dam in Bertam Valley is reported to be at normal level at 3,498 metres as at 10.30am today.
Cameron Highlands police chief, DSP Wan Zahari Wan Busu said the water level has stabilised after the heavy intermittent rain stopped last night.
He said the water level at the dam yesterday was at 3,500 metres which was the normal level.
"If the water level at the dam exceeded 3,500 metres, it will be categorised as a dangerous level.
"However, residents around Bertam Valley and Ringlet need not worry as the Fire and Rescue Department and Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) are closely monitoring the situation at the dam," he said when contacted by Bernama today.
Meanwhile, a Bernama check at the Ringlet Multipurpose Community Hall this morning found flood evacuees had been allowed to return to home to clean up their houses after the flood.
However, the villagers were still not allowed to stay in their homes due to the uncertain weather and were only allowed to return home for cleaning up purposes.
As at this morning, the weather here was reported to be fair.
In the 6.30pm incident on Wednesday, residents on the banks of Sungai Bertam near here were ordered to evacuate when water from the Sultan Abu Bakar Dam was released in stages following heavy rain.
Meanwhile, Ringlet town was also hit by flash floods when water from a nearby river overflowed its banks after an hour-long heavy downpour.
In the incident on Wednesday, five people were killed while five more were injured.
