Water level at Sungai Selangor Dam at 32.74 percent

The Guild of Credible Bumiputra Contractors (GBC) today urged the National Water Services Commission (SPAN) to be proactive in resolving the water supply issue in Selangor.

GBC chairman Datuk Mohd Said Mat Saman said SPAN needs to prioritise the needs of Selangor residents without waiting for an application from the state government to carry out rationing and other plans.

He said the commission needs to stop the 'wait and see' attitude before following orders from the state government to ration water.

"As an authority that advises the Energy, Green Technology and Water (KeTTHA) Minister and independent regulator, SPAN needs to realise this high risk situation will threaten the development of the business and industry," he said in a statement here.

He said this with regard to the water supply situation in Selangor which is reported to be critical, based on information from the Selangor Water Management Authority (LUAS) website.

According to the report, the water level at the Sungai Selangor Dam is now at 32.74 percent.

"If SPAN refuses to prioritise the consumers, we appeal to the Prime Minister and minister of KeTTHA to dissolve the commission for not taking any measure to defend the people's rights for water," he added.
