The Selangor government on Thursday refuted the allegation that the level of its water reserves currently stood below the critical level of five per cent, saying that the water reserves are still sufficient to meet the demand of the people in the state.
Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali said the allegation made by SYABAS and Puncak Niaga Holdings Bhd (PNHB) executive chairman Tan Sri Rozali Ismai was untrue as various initiatives were being taken to ensure the amount of raw and treated water would remain sufficient at all time.
"His (Rozali's) statement is untrue because we can see that the water levels at all dams are sufficient and are in fact higher than last year.
"We also have HORAS (Hybrid Off River Augmentation System) which will be completed by year-end, and we also have the Sungai Bernam project as well as several other projects which will ensure that we will have sufficient water supply," he told reporters here Thursday.
The menteri besar said various initiatives to increase the water reserves in the state were being done by taking into account the requirements of industry and domestic users.
Rozali recently said that issues concerning the restructuring of the water industry in Selangor should be solved immediately to prevent water crisis from occurring in the state as the level of water reserves now stood at less than five per cent.
