Water at Sembrong Dam in Batu Pahat drops to lowest levels
The water at the Sembrong Dam in Batu Pahat has dropped to its lowest level in recent years brought on by the prolonged dry spell nationwide.
Batu Pahat Irrigation and Drainage Department engineer Sukemi Sidek said in the past 24 hours alone the water level at the dam had fallen as much as 0.04 meters to 8.88 meters compared to 8.92 meters recorded the previous day.
He also said the levels had been consistently receding for the past three weeks.
A quick check by Astro AWANI found that the water levels at rivers surrounding the Sembrong Dam were also running dry as no water had been released since late December.
Normal water level readings at the Sembrong Dam is at 9.5 meters while the minimum level is at 8.5 meters.
The Sembrong Dam supplies water to the Sembrong water treatments plants which channels clean water to residents in Kluang.
