Water surge tragedy: Eatery worker recalls last conversation with Aszura

TAPAH: "When will I taste your curry noodles again, kakak?" said Noraini Maswan, 44, quoting Aszura Bani, 37, who tragically lost her life in the water surge incident at Sungai Kenjur, Kampung Poh, Bidor when the latter stopped by to eat at the eatery where she works.

Noraini recounted how Aszura had come on Monday to enjoy noodles with her son Hafiy Muhayat Azam, four, who was also involved in yesterday afternoon's incident.

"I never thought those words would be a sign that Aszura would be gone forever. She and Hafiy often have their meals here. Once a week, she would stop by to eat and her favourite dish was mi kicap kuah kari," she said when met at the scene last night.

Aszura was having a picnic with her three children, her sister Aslinda Bani, 38, her son, and a domestic helper before the water surge occurred at around 4 pm. Aszura was found drowned while the body of a young boy, believed to be her son, was found at 9.45 pm.

Aslinda and her 12-year-old son, as well as the Indonesian helper, were found safe.

Meanwhile, Aszura's sister-in-law, Ainur Radin Mustapha Amiruddin, 51, said she met with Aszura, her husband Azam Radin Mustapha Amiruddin, 46, and their three children at her mother's house in Bidor last week.

"The three siblings were overjoyed to see their grandmother as they missed her dearly. Just last week alone, Aszura and her family visited the house twice," she said.

Ainur said that her brother Azam could not join his wife and children for the picnic due to other commitments.

"I still have not seen Azam because he went straight to the hospital. I do not know how he is doing because he lost his wife and three children," she said.

This morning, the search and rescue team found two more bodies of young children, believed to be victims of the water surge incident.
