The Malaysian Muslim Restaurant Owners Association (Presma) today denied allegations that Indian Muslim food outlets in Malaysia had resorted to using dog meat as a substitute to mutton in their dishes.
Its deputy Datuk Khadar Shah Abdul Razak at a press conference here said he regretted the action by several irresponsible quarters which had tarnished the reputation of Indian Muslim food operators and outlets in the country.
A Facebook posting showing an image of a dog being slaughtered purportedly as an ingredient in a briyani rice dish had gone viral on social media, recently.
The incident, said Khadar Shah, actually took place in Tamil Nadu in India and it had since been widely circulated on news portals and telecast on TV channels there. Facebook, dog meat

Presma has given a Facebook user, known as 'Udin Diraja', three days to retract the FB status and openly apologise to the association.
“The association doesn’t hesitate to take any legal action against the Facebook user and we give assurance that Indian Muslim restaurants in Malaysia serve only halal food with Jakim certification,” said Khadar Shah.
He added that a police report has since been lodged over the matter.
