Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir said the state government will not compromise or protect any party, including politicians, who are found to be involved in criminal activities in the state.
He said the state government viewed the involvement of politicians in such activities as serious.
"The state government has never hidden anything because security is a serious matter," he told reporters after attending a Deepavali Open House hosted by the Menteri Besar's Special Assistant, Datuk V. Elango, here today.
He was commenting on a statement by Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi that there were politicians believed to be funded by earnings from illegal gambling centres in three areas, namely Pekan Kuala Sepetang, Bagan Panchor and Pulau Kuala Sangga in Perak.
Ahmad Zahid was reported as saying that although not involved directly, some politicians were found to be funded by money from illegal gambling centres.
