Police have obtained an order to remand for a week the man who allegedly drugged and raped a 12-year-old girl.
The remand order was issued today by Alor Setar Court deputy registrar Dalilah Ismail. It would expire on Oct 18.
The 24-year-old suspect was picked up at his house in Taman Setia Jaya here around 3pm.
The suspect was arrested when the police conducted a second raid at his house. A urine test was also done on the suspect, but the result tested negative for drugs.
It was previously reported that the man had allegedly offered the girl, a Standard Six pupil, syabu (methamphetamine) as a token for fulfilling his sexual needs.
According to police, the two met through the messaging mobile application WeChat and had been engaging in sexual activities ever since.
Police said the matter was exposed when the victim's mother noticed changes in her daughter's behaviour.
