Welcoming AidilAdha, the Festival of Sacrifice
...
Muslims around the world tonight marks the second biggest holiday of the Islamic calendar -- the Eid al-Adha (AidilAdha).
Also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, AidilAdha honours the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his promised son, Ismail, as an act of submission to Allah's command, before He then intervened to provide Ibrahim with a lamb to sacrifice instead.
This celebration also marks the end of the Hajj pilgrimage to Makkah.
In the lunar-based Islamic calendar, AidilAdha falls on the 10th day of Dhu al-Hijjah (Zulhijjah).
Some countries such as Thailand, the Philippines, Syria and some parts of Indonesia are celebrating it today (Saturday) while others, including Malaysia, are celebrating this holy festival on Sunday.
Here are some of the AidilAdha celebration captured around the globe.
