Welfare Department sends four reports to Sweden

Malaysia’s Welfare Department has sent four reports on the updates and well-being of the four children whose parents are detained in Sweden for violating the integrity of their children to the Swedish Social Services Department.

Woman, Family and Community Minister, Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim, during a press conference in Kuching on Thursday said the reports included updates on how the children were adapting to their surrounding in Malaysia and in school.

The Welfare Department is responsible to comply with three conditions set by the Swedish authorities that made the release of the children to return home to Malaysia possible.

The three conditions included periodic reports, counselling sessions and social assurance of all children were guaranteed and secured according to Articles 3 and 20 of the Convention Rights of the Child, or CRC.

Azizul, an officer with Tourism Malaysia and his wife, Shalwati Nor Shal, a teacher on unpaid leave have been detained since December 2013 for allegedly abusing their four children in their home in Spanga, Sweden.

They are both waiting for the continuation of the next court hearing on March 10 at the Solna District Court in Stockholm.

Their children Aisyah, 14, Ammar 12, Adam 11 and Arif 7, who are now under the care of their aunt in Kelantan were brought home from Sweden by Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Hamzah Zainuddin, last month.
