What happened on the first day 18 Huracans took over the streets of KL?

Here’s a recap of what happened in Race 1 of the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo.

In a largely uneventful qualifying which saw a number of Lamborghinis slipping and sliding around earlier in the day, we saw Yuan Bo and Edoardo Liberati top the time sheets in their number 8 car with a time of 1.24.458. Kazuki Hiramine had fought his way to second in the number 88 car just 0.319 seconds off the leaders while Malaysia’s bright young hope, Afiq Yazid slid his way into third at 1.25.037.

But unfortunately for Afiq, he immediately lost third place to his rivals at the start and spent the rest of the race trying to regain the places. Five laps in, it was obvious that his Huracan was suffering a problem, the Number 33 Huracan was suffering an overheating problem and Afiq Yazid was forced to back off his rivals and settle into damage limitation mode.

With Afiq forced to slow down, the leaders raced away. Out in the front, pole sitters Yuan Bo and Edoardo Liberati lost the lead to second place man Kazuki Hiramine. Toshiyuki Ochiai made a flying start, driving pass both Afiq Yazid’s Number 33 car and Antony Liu and Davide Rizzo’s Number 37 car.

Yudai Uchida was another candidate who made a flying start to the front from ninth place in his 23 car. Uchida was almost taken out by Afiq’s sliding 33 car when the youngster was attempting to chase him down to regain the position.

So the race ended with Hiramine the winner of the Pro-am category, pole sitter Yuan Bo and Edoardo Liberati in second and Toshiyuki Ochiai in third. Kimura Takeshi takes the top step of the AM-category with Akira Mizutami and Hajime Noma flanking him in second and Michael Choi and Keith Chan in third.

Race 1 of the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo only saw two retirements. Larry De George and Cedric Sbirrazzuoli’s Number 0 car and Yusuke Hayashi in the Number 6 car. Congratulations but for now, on to Race 2!
