Why are our children becoming bullies?
Another recording of students fighting has gone viral on social media. This is the second or third such recording within this week. This is not new. What’s new is how such incidents are easily spread.
This is not a fight, actually. This is a case of bullying – pure and simple. A student surrounded by fellow students scolded, shouted at and later beaten up.
Why does this continue to happen? Why do some teenagers subject themselves to being bullied? Why did the family, community and support system fail in curbing bullying? Are these bullies lacking in attention and love?
What goes through their minds? What are these bullies thinking of during the act? What do they gain from the act ofbullying?
How does the modern popular culture shape their thinking? Watch the recording below. Where did they learn to talk like this? “Gua pailang: itu Kak Yong”. Isn’t this a dialogue made popular by certain gangster films in cinemas and later on television?
Is this the price we pay after being shown local films which portray gangsterism?Are the celebrated filmmakers and directors aware of this ‘contribution’ they are making to the society
