Woman in amok case in Putrajaya presents blanket to lawyer

Former Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Malaysia (UIAM) student, Muhdalena Ahmad, who was acquitted of criminal intimidation and unlawful possession of a weapon during an amok incident in Putrajaya three years ago, today presented her lawyer M. Visvanathan a blanket on which were words she sewed herself.

The blanket with the words "Love has fell down from the sky & enters pure hearts. May the 'light' of humanity shines in us!" sewn on it, was given to Visvanathan in the High Court here, which was supposed to decide on the prosecution's appeal against her acquittal.

However, the court fixed Oct 29 to decide on the matter as Judge Kamardin Hashim, who is presided over the case, is attending a course.

Visvanathan, when met by reporters, thanked Muhdalena for the blanket.

She sewed the words on the blanket while she was at Permai Hospital in Tampoi, Johor, he said.

On June 19 last year, the Putrajaya Sessions Court acquitted Muhdalena of four charges under Section 506 of the Penal Code and Section 7 of the Corrosive, Explosive Substances and Dangerous Weapon Act.

The court found her mentally unstable and ordered her to be detained at Hospital Permai Tampoi, Johor at the pleasure of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

The charges against Muhdalena were committing criminal intimidation by threatening to cause grievous hurt to a policeman, for possession of a sword, and two additional charges under the Protected Areas and Protected Places Act 1959.

She was charged with committing the offences at Complex B of the Prime Minister's Department on July 9, 2012.
