Woman charged with prostituting teenage daughter

A 30-year-old woman who allegedly sold her teenage daughter into prostitution was charged with the offence today.
She is accused of committing the offence involving a minor aged 14 years, with a 45-year-old female karaoke operator.
The women were charged before second class magistrate Keli Mareng at Lawas District Office but no plea were taken from them.
In a statement here, Sarawak Criminal Investigation Department chief Datuk Dev Kumar said both accused who were represented by counsel Willie Liau were ordered to refrain from communicating and approaching the alleged victim.
He said the court set RM8,000 as bail with two sureties on each of the accused and further ordered them to report to the Lawas CID office once a week.
The women were charged under Section 372(1)(a) of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum imprisonment of 15 years and liable to whipping on conviction. -- Bernama
