Woman detained for allegedly insulting Agong on social media
The woman was alleged to have uploaded an edited image of Sultan Muhammad V with the Selamat Hari Raya greeting last June 25.
An account holder of a social media website who was detained by the police yesterday for allegedly posting insulting image of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong is being investigated under the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
Bukit Aman Commercial Criminal Investigation Department deputy director (Cyber and Multimedia Investigation) Datuk Mohd Kamarudin Md Din said the suspect, a 41-year-old female manager of a plantation in Kunak, Sabah, was arrested at 11.56 pm in Taman Usahawan, Kepong here, yesterday.
Police also seized a smartphone, a laptop, a unit of TM Modem and a router," he told Bernama.
Earlier today, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar, through his official Twitter, confirmed the woman's arrest.
She was alleged to have uploaded an edited image of Sultan Muhammad V with the Selamat Hari Raya greeting last June 25, the day Muslims celebrated the first day of Aidilfitri.
However, it was learnt that the woman, in her post on the social website on July 1, denied that she had insulted the ruler and had lodged a report with the police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission on the matter.
Following the incident, several quarters, especially non-governmental organisations, have lodged police reports on the matter for action to be taken against the social website account holder.
