A woman died after jumping out of a moving car in a bid to save herself from harm at KM 6 Jalan Tambunan-Kaingaran, at 10.45am today.
Keningau police chief, DSP Douglas Nyeging Taong said Sabinah Basilan, 60, of Kampung Sunsuron, was believed to have panicked when the car she was in with five other passengers broke down at an incline and moved back downhill.
"The engine broke down suddenly and Sabinah who sat at the back, panicked and jumped out after opening the door but died of head injuries," he told Bernama.
He said the five passengers -- three women and two men aged 27 to 67 years, including the driver -- were only slightly hurt.
He said they were all heading to Jalan Kaingaran from Kampung Sunsuron to go to a farm belonging to one of the passengers to pick ginger.
