A female trader fractured her left leg when her stall's canopy toppled during a thunderstorm in Bandar Universiti here, Sunday evening.
In the 5.20pm incident, Sharifah Hajar Syed Hasan, 52, and her husband Zulkifli Kasim, 52, were operating their food stall business at the Bandar Universiti recreational area when a thunderstorm coupled with heavy rain started at about 5pm.
Zulkifli said the incident happened very fast and he managed to run outside the stall area, but his wife, who was preparing the items for sale was trapped.
"It was raining heavily but we did not expect the strong wind to suddenly topple our stall. I saw my wife trying to take refuge behind a table but the tent overturned and struck her leg," he told Bernama.
Meanwhile, the storm also blew off the metal roof at a stall owned by Mat Rohi Mat Ribi, 41, in Dataran Niaga Aman Jaya. The roof flew almost 100 metres into a flower shop opposite.
A lamp post adjacent to his stall also fell on a moving Proton Wira car, crushing the front portion of the vehicle, said Mat Rohi, adding that it was the worst storm that had occurred since he started doing business in the area three years ago. --Bernama
