A 54 year-old woman and her grandson were injured when they were assaulted by her former neighbours with a stick in a robbery near here on Friday.
They were sent to Besut Hospital and she received eight stitches on the head while her grandson was given outpatient treatment for a bruised shoulder, after the robbery at Taman Haji Hassan, Kampung Alor Lintah near here.
Besut District Police chief Supt Kamaruddin Mohd Zakaria said the woman and her grandson,10, were about to go to bed, when her former neighbours turned up at 11.45pm.
Suspecting nothing amiss, the woman invited the couple, aged 27 and 20, into the house and excused herself to go to the bathroom.
"The man hit her with a stick when she emerged. He also hit her grandson when he tried to help her. His wife grabbed a bangle worth RM1,000 on her wrist and they ran off," he told the media here on Sunday.
The victim then went to her son's house, which was located in the same housing area, for help, before she collapsed and had to be rushed to the hospital.
Kamaruddin said the victim's son lodged a report at Kampung Raja Police Station an hour later.
Speedy action by the police resulted in the arrest of the couple in Kampung Bukit Tanah, 7 km from the scene of the robbery, at 3.30am, yesterday.
The man tested positive for methamphetamine.
