Woman killed, four seriously injured in Lahad Datu accident

A woman died while four others including a toddler were seriously injured when the Perodua Axia they were travelling in collided with another vehicle at Kilometre 45 of Jalan Lahad Datu-Tungku near here yesterday afternoon.
Lahad Datu police chief ACP Hamzah Ahmad said in the incident at about 1.58pm, the woman victim, Marisah Melantong, 60, died at the location.
According to him, the victims who sustained serious injuries were Rosli Matin, 23, Nurhanizah Lanjaihu, 12, Mohammad Arman Shah Abdullah, 3, as well as the car driver Nita Avelino, 40.
"Initial investigations found the accident was believed to have occurred when the Perodua Axia lost control at a corner and entered the opposite lane to collide with an oncoming car.
"The victims were on their way to Tungku while the driver of a Proton Preve who was not hurt was heading to Lahat Datu," he said in a statement here today.
He said all victims were taken to Lahad Datu hospital and the case would be investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
