The police have re-arrested a female student in connection with the discovery of the body of a newborn baby boy at the hostel of a higher learning institute near Bukit Kayu Hitam last Thursday.
The woman who was released on police bail on Sunday, was re-arrested when a post-mortem on the baby - whose body was found by the public in a toilet bowl - revealed he was born alive.
Kedah CID chief SAC Datuk Mohd Nasir Ya said while the exact cause of death was still under investigation, the police re-classified the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
(Earlier, the case was classified under Section 318 of the Penal Code for baby dumping)
In a statement here, Mohd Nasir said the student, in her 20s, was remanded for seven days, beginning Tuesday.
