Woman shot dead at close range in Penang

A woman was shot dead while driving on Jalan Pekaka in Sungai Dua, near here, this afternoon.

In the incident at around 5:45 pm, the 49-year-old victim died at the scene after sustaining severe injuries from gunshots fired at close range.

The victim, a businesswoman, was shot believed to have been shot dead by two suspects on motorcycles.

In the incident, the victim’s vehicle hit another vehicle before crashing into the wall of a residence.

Meanwhile, Penang CID police chief SAC Zainol Samah said the victim, who was driving alone en route to Bukit Gambir from Sungai Dua was shot over 10 times in the incident.

"Six shots hit the chest, causing serious injury to the woman," he said.

The victim’s remains were sent to the Penang Hospital for post-mortem.
