A worker at a shopping complex did not answer 15 telephone calls Thursday evening but later found out that the calls were actually to alert her that her house was on fire.
Noriza Ninggal, 50, who worked at a shopping centre in Wangsa Maju, here, said she could not respond to the calls because she was busy at work.
"I found out that my flat has been razed two hours after the fire took place at 4 pm," she said.
Her unit on the 14th floor of Block C at the People's Housing Project, Kampung Baru Air Panas, in Jalan Usahawan, Setapak, was totally destroyed.
She had stayed there with her husband and three children, aged six to 23, for the past eight years.
Her husband was slightly hurt in the incident and was sent to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital for treatment.
Setapak Fire and Rescue Station chief Suki Annuar said the fire was put out at 6pm, adding the neighbours' efforts to douse the fire had helped the firemen in dousing the fire.
