There is no need to set a quota for women to hold government positions, said Former International Trade and Industry Minister Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz.
Instead, she said the selection of the job should be based on meritocracy.
“Why do we need quota?
“We select them based on their merit. If more women are eligible for a particular post, then appoint them," she told reporters after attending a discussion titled ‘Women Empowerment: Redefining Feminism’ at the National Aspiration & Leadership Summit 2016 at Putra World Trade Centre here today.
In the session, Rafidah stressed about the importance of the women's role in building a family and the country, as a whole.
Also present at the session were the Founder and Director of Lean In Summit Sarah Chen and respiratory consultant Associate Prof Dr Tidi Hassan.
