Worker dies in MRT Semantan mishap

A mishap that occurred at the MRT construction site at the Semantan portal today has claimed one life.
In the 1.20pm incident, three Bangladeshi nationals were assembling a rebar (reinforcement steel) cage when the ties that held the rebars gave way and fell on top of the workers.
Rijaul Abdul Goni, 40, died on the spot while Shanaullah, 37, sustained injuries and was rushed to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital.
The third worker, Rozlu Karim, escaped injury.
Police and forensics arrived at the worksite at 3pm. Investigations are underway to fully determine the cause of incident.
“Rijaul’s body has been sent to the hospital for post-mortem. Information on the cause of death will be shared once it is available,” said MRT Corp strategic communication and PR director, Amir Mahmood Razak, in a statement today.
Work has been suspended at the V4 Semantan Portal interface site until further notice.
Amir expressed deep regret over the incident and said further updates will be issued soon.
