Workers injured during Bersih 4.0 rally will not be covered by Perkeso
ISMAIL: If they knowingly participate in the illegal rally, Perkeso will not provide coverage.
Employees who suffer injuries during the Bersih 4.0 rally which starts tomorrow will not be covered by insurance under the Pertubuhan Keselamatan Sosial (Perkeso).
Deputy Human Resource Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Abdul Muttalib said since the rally has been declared illegal by the police, it will be an offence for employees to take part in such a rally.
"Based on the PERKESO terms and conditions, workers are covered if they are involved in accidents while working and while travelling to and from work. For those on duty or assigned to carry out certain duties or trapped in the rally, Perkeso will need to look at the conditions.
"If they knowingly participate in the illegal rally, Perkeso will not provide coverage," he told reporters after giving out aid to haj pilgrims, students who will pursue their studies and higher learning institutions and spectacles to poor students as well as senior citizens in the Maran parliamentary constitution, here today.
He said action would also be taken against officers or staff of ministries who participate in the illegal rally.
Yesterday, the Home Ministry declared the planned Bersih 4.0 rally as illegal because those responsible for organising the rally are not a legally registered body.
Speaking of news that 300 Naza Automotive Manufacturing workers in Gurun, Kedah have been retrenched, Ismail said the ministry has yet to receive a report from the company.
