The root cause of the collapsed bridge near the Selangor 2 Science Park was due to movements to one of the pillars, said Works Minister Datuk Shaziman Abu Mansor.
The bridge, which belongs to the Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS), collapsed about 2pm today.
Ruins of the bridge fell on parts of a PLUS Malaysia Bhd-owned highway closed since December 7 last year and did not cause any traffic disruption or casualties.
The reports on the incident as well as the photos of the collapsed bridge have been spreading like wildfire on Twitter and Facebook.
There was even a picture of the bridge super imposed with a popular Japanese TV character.
So far, the authorities have yet to confirm the cause of the incident.
When contacted, PLUS and PKNS have said they will issue a statement tomorrow (Friday).
Meanwhile the police issued a statement via their Facebook page stating the bridge collapsed at 2.45pm and is not open for traffic.
