It's only taken two years, but starting this fall, thanks to a huge software update, Xbox One owners will finally be able to play their existing Xbox 360 games on the new console.
When the update initially rolls out -- timed to arrive before the end of November -- 100 or so Xbox 360 games will be compatible with the latest-generation Microsoft games console. However, according to Mike Ybarra, Director of Program Management for Xbox, hundreds more will also become compatible over the following months.
As well as compatibility, the existing games will also be able to take advantage of several features on the Xbox One that didn't come on the Xbox 360, such as taking screenshots, streaming and DVR recording.
The software update will also bring a host of bug fixes and performance enhancements and will move the Xbox One's online community closer to the fore.
