YAN: A chalet operator in Jalan Titi Hayun here suffered losses amounting to RM95,000 after her property was badly damaged during a flash flood Wednesday.
A Bernama check today found a section of a structure at the facility swept away by the swift currents of a nearby river and a part of the compound was filled with thick mud, stones and debris.
The operator, Siti Hajar Abdul Hamid, 46, said total losses included the cost of constructing a new wall, repair works and cleaning a swimming pool following the water surge phenomenon on August 18.
"Constructing the new wall and other repair works have already set us back by about RM80,000. This does not include RM15,000 from our own pocket to deepen the river.
"However, all our efforts and money spent came to nothing yesterday as the new wall collapsed again and was swept away by strong currents. The pool is muddy again while there are mud and stones in some chalets as a result of the floods," she said when met by Bernama at her chalet yesterday.
Initially, Siti Hajar who ran the chalet with her husband, was content with spending a lot of money to repair the chalet after the water surge in August, regarding it as part of the challenge of doing business.
However, in a choked voice, she said she felt stressed out after spending her husband's savings only to have the chalet badly damaged again on Wednesday.
